How can scientists benefit from EATRIS?
EATRIS will offer access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, bioinformatics databases and an environment for clinical trials. Scientists will be able to work with the best European researchers at the forefront of biomedical translational research. With support from EATRIS they gain greater control and greater return on their early research investment. Since EATRIS will facilitate the transfer of more innovative approaches from basic research to healthcare applications, scientists can create material value and real clinical benefit from their research.
How can industry benefit from EATRIS?
By linking basic research and clinical trials, and managing the process from “bench to bedside” more professionally, EATRIS will help industry to refill their pipeline with new, innovative candidates of high quality. EATRIS “de-risks” targets for industry: Drug candidates from academia will be more advanced on the translational path and developed following high quality standards. Industrial research and development can also benefit from the services as EATRIS will provide state-of-the-art facilities and knowledge usually not available in industry, such as tracers and cyclotrons.
How can the public and patients benefit from EATRIS?
EATRIS aims to contribute to public health by ensuring that basic research leads to new innovative medical applications. Better health care will be possible due to faster development of new therapeutics and diagnostics. In addition, advanced diagnostics and clinical studies aiming at patient stratification to identify non-responders will lead to a more individualised medicine, avoiding inefficient prescriptions and thus will allow to safe costs in the healthcare system.
EATRIS will focus on diseases with the greatest burden and unmet medical need in Europe: cancer, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, metabolic diseases and neurological diseases. But as EATRIS will not have the same economic constraints as industry, it can pursue as well rare disease areas that are not of primary interest to industry or highly innovative projects that carry a great promise but are more risky in terms of success.
EATRIS will provide a basis for better health throughout the European and global population.
