EATRIS has become interested party in CAT of EMA

Exchange on research and development of new advances therapies (ATMPs)

EATRIS has become an interested party to the Committee for Advanced Therapies (CAT) at the European Medicine Agency (EMA) in London. The CAT is a multidisciplinary committee who plays a central role in the assessment of quality, safety and efficacy of new advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) for market approval.

ATMPs which comprise among others cell therapies and gene therapies are cutting edge innovative products and lead to new frontiers in the regulatory framework as they cannot be compared with traditional chemical compounds. To succeed in the implementation of the ATMP legislation aligned with current standards in science, the CAT is fostering an active dialogue with various stakeholders.

Due to its role as European player in translational ATMP research and development, EATRIS was asked by CAT to become an interested party to CAT and thus one of the stakeholder groups consulted on new regulations in ATMP assessment for market approval.
